Representative Crandall invited SSA Academic Decathlon Team to the State Capitol

On April 21, the SSA Academic Decathlon team went where no Sonoran Science Academy had gone before: to the Arizona State House of Representatives courtesy of Rep. Richard Crandall. The representative from Mesa had seen the team in action when they competed in the state Decathlon competition and was so impressed by their overall 8th place finish in the entire state that he invited the team to Phoenix for a visit.
The trip started with a tour of the State Capital Museum after which the team met with Mr. Crandall in the House for a conversation on politics and educational issues. The discussion continued over lunch where the students had the opportunity to share with Mr. Crandall their experiences as SSA students and their future plans. The representative, as chair of the Education Committee, seemed particularly interested in what could be done to further the goals and mission of SSA. After lunch the students returned to the House of Representatives to view a session from the gallery at which time they were introduced from the floor by Mr. Crandall to the applause of his fellow representatives. Our own District 26 representative, Vic Williams, came up to the gallery afterwards to meet the students and to offer his congratulations on their success.
